Words To Write By© was developed by and is published by The Aspiring Songwriter® to help songwriters to think in new ways about their craft, career goals, and creative being. On the following two pages, you will find Words to Write By quotes and essays that you can use as thinking points for your own creative journey.

MY FINAL ESSAY
How to use this site: Print out the two Words to Write By essays. Plan to use one essay per month. Each essay presents the author's thoughts about a quote from a famous (or otherwise) person, and how it pertains to his or her inner creative life. None of the quotes are about "songwriting" per say, but tie into what we do and create as songwriters, nonetheless.
After reading the quote and the essay, reflect on how this quote might shed some light on your own perceptions of the topic discussed. Complete the exercises, which are in italics, found at the end of the essay.

Two things are very important to making these exercises worth your while:
FIRST: Your exercises should be about your opinion and your perceptions. Not the author's, not anyone else's, just yours. There is no right or wrong; this is about you learning more about yourself.
SECOND: Don't rush it -- spend the entire month thinking about the quote and working on the exercises. Give yourself permission to nurture your thoughts. Most importantly, don't turn this into another "burden" in your life. Keep it fun!
